KUCHING: Two stalls owners in Ting Café BDC here were awarded Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) strategic partner plaques and stickers today.
The plaques and stickers were presented by Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah to David Chua, owner of ‘Mr Chua Special Seafood Fish Noodle Laksa’ stall and Tan Taw Lian, the owner of ‘Lian’s Kueh Chap’ stall.
“I was made aware by the president of Sarawak Gerontology & Geriatrics Society, Dennis Tan that there are stalls here which offer RM1 discount to elderly clients.
“If the laksa costs RM6, then the elderly only needs to pay RM5 which is a discount of between 10 percent and 20 percent,” noted Fatimah.
She commended the stall owners for their act of goodwill and presented them with the plaque in a symbol of recognition as the official KGC strategic partner.
Fatimah said Chua and Tan are the 274th and 275th strategic partners of KGC respectively.
“We want the public to know that our KGC partners are not only limited to big retail shops, but also stalls like these which are frequently visited by the KGC holders,” added Fatimah.
She welcomed those who operate similar stalls to come forward to be their strategic partner.
“It is a very good sign for Sarawak if we have more people like Chua and Tan who, out of the sincerity of their hearts, are willing to assist in making lives better for the senior citizen.
“These augur well for the social wellbeing of the state,” she emphasised.
She pointed out that the feedback from the KGC holders were very positive and that they were very happy to see the discounts on their grocery bills upon making purchases at the retail outlets.
She added that they will also get feedback from the existing strategic partners on how they feel about being a strategic partner and whether it helps with their business.
