KUCHING: The car park under the Satok Flyover has been reserved for food truck operators every weekend.

This was made known during the launching ceremony of Satok Street Fest 2019 yesterday, which was a programme by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok Youth to support youth involvement in the local food truck industry.

PBB Satok Youth, Satok Economy Bureau, and Sarawak Bumiputera Food Truck Association applied for the space from Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) and approval was given this year.

PBB Youth chief, Dzamaluddin Zainudin, said the space was necessary since the food truck business had been growing in this city.

“Currently, there are 49 registered food truck owners with 15 actively operating. The collaboration with Sarawak Bumiputera Food Truck Association is aimed at helping them to operate their businesses properly,” he said.

Dzamaluddin also thanked DBKU for having given approval to utilise the parking lot and he hoped that it would show that food trucks exist in the city.

“Since Satok PBB Youth organised the effort, we hoped that it would boost youth entrepreneurship, which is the main target of this event,” he said.

The collaborations for Satok Street Fest 2019 were aimed at making Satok a tourist attraction with the help of third parties such as Old Kuching Smart Heritage (OKSHE), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and travel agents to bring international and local tourists to the area.

In the fest were activities such as Autoshow by Mira Avy Club Sarawak (in partnership with Perodua), singing competition, games and various other entertaining activities.
