KUCHING: Declaration of assets is important to ensure transparency in governance.
This was stressed by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Lo Khere Chiang when contacted yesterday.
“Everyone should declare their assets,” he said.
But when asked on the progress of asset declaration among members of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component members, he declined to comment.
Actually, all Sarawak lawmakers declared their assets to the MACC in 2015 when Pehin Sri Adenan Satem was chief minister.
The declaration was done in front of the then MACC chief, Tan Sri Abu Kassim.
As for Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, he has instructed all GPS members of parliament to declare their assets.
The declaration has a format as specified by the Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
On this, GPS parliamentary Chief Whip Petra Jaya MP Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said they are now waiting for it.
