BINTULU: Narcotics police arrested a foreign man for possessing drugs believed to be syabu yesterday (Jan 1).

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit who confirmed the arrest, said itdrugs was part of the operation codenamed ‘Op Tapis’ carried out behind a public toilet at Jalan Sommerville, here.

The 25-year-old suspect was detained for interrogation as he was believed to be involved in distributing and abusing drugs.

A total of seven straw tubes containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu weighing 5.5g were found inside a bag belonging to the suspect.

“The drugs can be distributed to some 150 users around the city and plantations.

“The suspect, who tested positive for drugs, will be investigated under Section 39A (1) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

In addition, he will also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not having a valid travel document.

Batholomew advised the public to continue channelling any information related to drugs activities to Bintulu police at 086-318304.
