Foreigner held for possessing syabu

Three straw tubes and a plastic packet containing drugs believed to be syabu, were seized from the suspected foreign drug dealer on Tuesday (June 27).

BINTULU: Narcotics police here arrested a foreign man suspected to be a drug dealer for possessing 6.2g of syabu drugs on yesterday (June 27).

Bintulu police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit said the 29-year-old was arrested for allegedly distributing and abusing drugs at Pasar Lama Bintulu.

“The suspect will be investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after three straw tubes and a plastic packet containing drugs believed to be syabu, were seized from him.

“If convicted, the suspect can be sentenced to jail for a term up to five years and up to three whips of the cane,” he said.

Investigations found that the drugs to be distributed around town, can cater to about 30 users.

Other than that, the suspect who is tested positive for drugs, will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 as well as Section 6 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing any valid travel document.
