KUCHING: Police here arrested a foreigner for suspected possession of drugs worth more than RM500 last Friday (May 6).
Acting on information, a police team picked up the 38-year-old suspect believed to be involved in drug distribution at Jalan Ban Hock.
Kuching OCPD ACP Ahsmon Bajah said the suspect was arrested around 11.25am.
“Inspections led to the seizure of four plastic packets containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu.
“The drugs weighed 5.46g with an estimated value of RM546,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries a jail term up to five years and up to nine lashes of the cane, on conviction.
Ahsmon added that the suspect who tested positive for drugs, will also be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, which provides for a fine up to RM500 or a jail term up to two years.
