KUCHING: A 29-year-old man was sentenced to four months in jail by the Session Court for overstaying  in the country.

The accused Indonesian national Rudi Hendra, pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 and can be punished under Section 15(4) of the same act which provides for a fine up to RM10,000 and imprisonment up to five years or both, if convicted.

The charges were read out by an interpreter to him before Judge Musli Abdul Hamid.

Based on the fact sheet, he committed the offence at a food premises in Tapah, Kuching-Serian Road at around 7.20 pm , on December 9.

Further investigations revealed that the accused entered from Biawak ICQS and was only supposed to stay from September 11 to October 10 using a social visit pass.

However, the accused overstayed illegally for 70 days until his arrest on December 9.

The prosecution case is handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian while the accused was not represented by a counsel.
