KUCHING: A foreign woman who was found without a valid travel document, was sentenced to three months in jail starting Monday (May 17).

Sessions Court Judge Maris Agan meted out the sentence on 25-year-old Saiyah Muhamad from Senuju Village, Sejangkang Sub-district of Sambas region for staying in the country without any valid document.

The accused pleaded guilty under Section 6 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Saiyah was arrested here at 2.58 pm while at being found at a hotel at Jalan Song Thian Cheok on May 2.

According to the facts of the case, the accused was detained by a team of policemen led by Inspector Zulsafri Alnodus from the Criminal Investigation Department, Kuching.

The team was assigned to inspect the area and came across a foreign woman and upon investigation she was found to have entered the country illegally as no entry data was found.

The prosecution of the case was handled by deputy public prosecutor Rutra Raj.
