MIRI: Police have obtained a three-day remand order until Dec 1 against a Pakistani man suspected of molesting an 11-year-old boy.

The remand order was granted when the 38-year-old accused was produced before magistrate Eleanor Mako Timothy at the Miri Magistrates Court on Thursday.

He is accused of committing the offence on Nov 15 this year in the toilet of a mosque in Lutong.

The incident occurred while the accused was in Miri attending a religious activity at the mosque.

The accused then returned to Kepong (in Kuala Lumpur) after the programme ended.

According to the charge sheet, a police report was lodged by the boy’s father, who is an imam, on Nov 20.

Acting on the report lodged, the accused was picked up by the police in Kepong to assist in the investigation.

The offence is framed under Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a jail term not exceeding 20 years, and shall also be liable to whipping upon conviction.
