BINTULU: Narcotic police here arrested four men suspected to be drug dealers and seized 31.1g of drugs believed to be syabu in an operation codenamed ‘Ops Tapis Khas Se-Malaysia’ on Thursday (Dec 8).

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit, in a statement, said the suspects were detained for inspections as they were believed to be distributing and abusing drugs in a budget hotel at Jalan Pedada here.

He stated that the first arrest involved a foreign man with 6.6g of drugs suspected to be syabu seized from him.

Whereas, the second arrest involved three foreign men with 24.5g of drugs suspected to be syabu seized from them.

“Investigation found that the drugs are believed to be distributed to some 150 users around town and plantation fields.

“The suspects, aged between 21 and 44, are being investigated under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a jail term of up to five years and up to three lashes if convicted,” he said.

Aside from narcotic offences, all four men are also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents.
