BINTULU: Two foreigners were arrested for alleged possession of syabu-type drugs at Kidurong Industrial Estate yesterday (Oct 17).

Bintulu OCPD Supt Batholomew Umpit in a statement, said the arrests were carried out by the Sarawak Narcotic Criminal Investigation Department (NCID).

The suspects aged 28 and 30, were detained for inspections as they were believed to be involved in drug distribution activities.

“The team managed to find a plastic packet and eight straw tubes containing crystalline substance believed to be syabu, with an estimate weight of 61.90g.

“Both suspects will be investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for possessing drugs, which carries a mandatory death penalty or if not sentenced to death, can be imprisoned for life and whipping up to 15 lashes of the rotan,” he said.

He added that they will also be investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not having valid travel documents, which carries a fine up to RM10,000 or, a five-year jail term or, both at once and whipping up to six lashes of the rotan.

The arrests are among the police’s efforts to overcome substance abuse activities, aside from curbing crime in the district.

Batholomew advised the public to channel any information related to drugs activities to Bintulu police at 086-318304.
