MIRI: State Forestry director Hamden Mohammad has pledged to transform his department to free it from corruption and the perception of it.
“In line with our 100th-year anniversary next year – January 1 – we want to rebuild and revamp the department in order to change its image as we try to get rid of the public’s perception that always associate us with corruption,” he said.
When met by local reporters after attending a ceremony where the department’s personnel from Miri, Bintulu, Limbang and Lawas gathered to pledge freeing themselves from corruption, he said the department would collaborate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to achieve the objective.
“For the effort to succeed, the department will close every avenue where corruption is possible,” he said.
He also said the mission was crucial so that in the years to come, the public would no longer associate the department with corruption.
Hence, he urged his personnel to carry out their duties with integrity.
About 100 of the department’s personnel were present at the ceremony held yesterday at a local hotel.
Also present were the department’s deputy director Jack Liam, senior assistant director Abdul Wahab Ahmad, Miri Forestry head Alexander Anthony Banyan and MACC Sarawak deputy director Abdul Razak Deraof.
The signed corruption-free pledge (Ikrar Bebas Rasuah – IBS) was handed over by Alexander to Abdul Razak witnessed by Hamden during the ceremony.
