SIBU:  A Form 4 student from SMK Sacred Heart, Lucas Wong, defied all odds to win the Men’s Open category of the NV Run.

A total of 180 participants from both the men and women categories took part in the first-ever run organised by Nirvana Alliance Sdn Bhd at its memorial park in Jalan Oya yesterday.

Wong, who received RM800 for the feat, beat a seasoned runner, Hii Yii Puong, to second place. Hii collected RM500 as his prize.

Another student, Jason Chee Jun Huong of SMK Deshon, took home the third prize of RM300.

In the Women’s Open category, a soon-to-be teacher, Luk Teck Bing of Sarikei outclassed all other established runners to grab the first prize.

She beat Lee Ming Ha and Ling Mee Eng to second and third places, respectively.

They all received the same prizes as with the men’s winners.

The 5km run was jointly flagged off by Nirvana Alliance Sdn Bhd chief operating officer (Sibu and Kota Kinabalu branches) Au Kok Wah and Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew.
