KUCHING: Former Balingian assemblyman Datuk Abdul Ajis Abdul Majeed has passed away earlier today (Apr 27).

He was 73.

He breathed his last at the Sarawak Heart Centre, Kota Samarahan at around 3.33am.

According to the youngest daughter of the deceased, Athirah Abdul Ajis, 34, said her father’s remains will be laid to rest at the Raudhatul Sakinah Cemetery in Samariang this afternoon.

“He was admitted to the Sarawak Heart Centre yesterday evening and passed away early this morning.

“My late father is now at our family residence in Gita and will be laid to rest shortly,” she said when contacted today.

Abdul Ajis served as the Balingian assemblyman for three terms, from 1987 to 2001 before being succeeded by the late Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

He left behind his wife, Daling Suut, four children, three daughters and a son.
