KUCHING: Datuk William Nyallau Badak has resigned from Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) and reaffirmed his unconditional support for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
As such, he hoped that Sarawakians would stand as one and support GPS wholeheartedly in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).
In a statement on Tuesday (Nov 8), the former Lubok Antu MP emphasised the importance of “unity of Sarawakians.” He noted that GPS had done an excellent job of developing Sarawak.
Following the result of the 2021 state election, he said he had thus come to a conclusion that in order to protect the people’s interest, unity was of the utmost importance.
“Sarawak is only strong when Sarawakians are united as one. Sarawak should not be divided against itself. We must be united as one.
“Under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, together with Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, GPS has been developing Sarawak well.
“As such, I have decided to quit PSB to support GPS. Together, we can build a stronger Sarawak.
“Together, we can fight for our rights. Together, we can reclaim all that belongs to us, the people of Sarawak, all along; and move Sarawak to a brighter future,” said Nyallau.
He has served Sarawak since 1973, first as a Sarawak Administrative Officer in various locations throughout Sarawak.
Later, he was elected as Lubok Antu MP for two terms from 2008 to 2018.
Despite the fact that he was no longer an MP after 2018, he was eager to continue helping folk in Lubok Antu.
Prior to the 2018 general election (GE14), his previous party’s president, the late Tan Sri James Jemut Masing, dropped him and a few incumbent PRS MPs owing to a misunderstanding.
“Thus in order to continue serving the people, I tried to get elected as Batang Ai assemblyman during the 2021 state election.
“However, from the result of that election, I realised that our people are smart. They preferred a strong team and they saw the importance of unity for Sarawak and were strongly supporting GPS.
“I thus wish to re-emphasise that unity is strength,” he asserted.
His resignation letter has been handed over to the PSB secretary-general and a copy has been forwarded to the president.
