Former MP Mutang tipped to head Senate

KUCHING: Speculation is rife that a former MP from Sarawak is set to be appointed as the next Senate President to replace Tun Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

According to sources, the individual tipped for the post is former Bukit Mas MP Datuk Mutang Tagal.

He is believed to have received the appointment letter but an official announcement is set for Feb 19.

Mutang served as the MP for Bukit Mas for two terms from around 1982 to 1990.

A Lun Bawang by ethnicity, Mutang was born on October 5, 1954, in Lawas. He holds a Bachelor of Law from Universiti Malaya and a Master of Business Administration from Curtin University.

On Jan 26, Wan Junaidi was appointed as the eighth Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak.
