Former neighbour becomes victim of vicious attack

KUCHING: Driven by revenge, a local man followed his former neighbour and injured the victim by striking him with a sword, causing serious injuries. 

The act resulted in severe consequences for Anthony, 51, who was sentenced to eight years in prison by Sessions Court Judge Iris Awen Jon today (Sept 18). 

At the end of the trial, Choo, a former businessman, was found guilty of a charge under Section 326 of the Penal Code. 

According to the charge, he intentionally inflicted serious injuries on a 48-year-old male victim using a sword in front of a licensed public lottery ticket shop at Tabuan Jaya, around 6.55 pm on February 14, 2021.

Based on the facts of the case, on the day of the incident, the victim, who worked as a mechanic in a workshop, was followed by the accused to the parking lot in front of a public lottery shop, where the accused struck the victim with a sword. 

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered severe injuries and was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

A police report was lodged, leading to the arrest of the accused on February 15, 2021. 

Investigations revealed that the accused intentionally injured the victim using a sharp weapon capable of causing death. 

The motive for the attack revealed the accused’s dissatisfaction with the victim, who had previously repaired his car, which remained faulty. 

Apparently, they had once been neighbours before moving to new residences. 

The prosecution was handled by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian, while the accused was represented by Lawyer Osman Ibrahim.
