MIRI: A former officer with the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Miri branch was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment and fined RM430,000, in default 65 months’ in jail over submission of false claims amounting to RM86,000 involving 56 villagers (small planters) from Rumah Abok Jabu, Long Teru, Tinjar Baram.

Leman Sumong, 42, pleaded guilty to 19 charges for offences committed between July 2013 and July 2014 when he was produced before Judge Nixon Kennedy Kumbong here yesterday.

Leman was charged under Section 18 of the Malaysian Anti -Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 with

deceiving his principal with receipts, accounts and documents containing false information.

He was charged with misleading the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Miri branch, by submitting fake claims containing false information on the small planters’ application of ‘Borang Permohonan Skim Tanam Baru Sawit Pekebun Kecil (TBSPK) to MPOB for payment.

According to the charge sheet, the works of oil palm plantation clearing was never done by MYY Farm Agro Enterprise, which is owned by the accused.

Based on MACC’s investigation, the accused had verified that the works have been completed and had submitted the application of ‘Borang Permohonan Skim Tanam Baru Sawit Pekebun Kecil (TBSPK) to MPOB for payment.

Leman was arrested by MACC on November 9 this year.

Leman is led out of the Sessions Court after sentencing.
