KUCHING: The book titled ‘Those were the Days, Memories Forever” authored by Datuk Alfred Yap detailing his 20 years of political journey has been launched.

When interviewed, Yap said the book comprises photos and relevant events happening in 20 years especially during his political career as former Batu Kawah assemblyman.

“This book, for the first part, is about my early childhood, later I enter the civil service as SAO (Sarawak Administrative Officer), then in 1980 I went to England to study law.

“And then why I came back, I set up my law firm and join Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) and become an assemblyman from 1998 to 2006. And when I step down, people around me asked me on things happening all those days and about the party. Thus, this book summarises it all,” he said.

He said this to reporters after the book launching ceremony at SUPP headquarters here on Sunday.

On a related note, Yap hoped that the book will be a pointer to the younger generation to join political parties.

Meanwhile, Deputy Premier and SUPP president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian who officiated at the launching, said that the event was not merely about the launching of the book documentation.

“It’s about the life contribution of Datuk Alfred Yap on what he has done for Sarawak. I am very honoured to be here to witness the launch.

“So, congratulate Yap and his family for his contribution to Sarawak and to SUPP and set an example on how the sacrifices were going on in those days.

“All this documentation, it is important as different era have different challenges and style of leadership as well as different ways of doing things, despite that we still have the same target for Sarawak since 1959,” he said.
