MIRI: A foul stench emanating from a rented room of a three-storey building in Piasau here yesterday led to the decomposing body of a man.

Miri police chief ACP Hakemal Hawari said a team from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 5.30pm from the landlord of the building who had complained about a rotting smell coming from the unit.

The victim was believed to have died more than 48 hours prior to the discovery.

“We believed that the deceased was a local 42-year-old man,” said Hakemal.

He added that the body was taken to Miri Hospital for post-mortem.

The case has been classified as sudden death.
