KUCHING: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has removed the small fountain situated right in front of the entrance of its building.

Does this have anything to do with feng shui? No, insists its mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.

“The fountain has been covered up to ensure the safety of the people,” he explained.

According to him, during marathons or walks held early in the morning on weekends, there were times when children tripped and fell into the pond of the fountain.

“After such incidents, we decided to cover it up so that no one would get hurt,” he said.

Wee added because the water filters at the fountain had not been functioning well, the water had also become smelly and stagnant.

“Repairing the filters is costly. Instead of spending so much money on repairing them, it is better to cover them up so that there will be more space for activities,” he said.
