KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has declared the end of four Covid-19 clusters after no new cases were reported within 28 days from the last detected case.
SDMC on Tuesday (Aug 25) said the clusters were the Kuching Engineering Cluster, Sentosa Cluster, Melbourne PUI Cluster and Satok Market Cluster.
To date, there are two active clusters in the state which involved a total of 14 cases, namely the Mambong Cluster and Alam Cluster, each with seven cases.
“Kuching Engineering Company Cluster is a cluster that was detected on July 18 involving eight cases. Overall, a total of 495 people were screened consisting of colleagues as well as close contacts to the cases that had been identified.
“Screening results have successfully detected a total of eight cases or 1.62 per cent. The last case was detected on July 28. The last case that has recovered and was discharged from the hospital ward was on Aug 8. No cases were admitted to the intensive care unit and no deaths were reported in this cluster,” said SDMC.
SDMC said the Sentosa Cluster was first detected on July 21, involving 31 cases.
“The screening results have successfully detected 30 more confirmed cases of infection and a total of 518 people were screened consisting of health workers, general workers and also close contact to the cases that have been identified.
“Screening results have successfully detected a total of 31 cases or 5.98 per cent. The last case was detected on July 28 and the last case that had recovered and was discharged from the hospital ward was on Aug 9. No cases were admitted to the intensive care unit and no death cases were reported in this cluster.”
For the Melbourne PUI (persons-under-investigation) Cluster, SDMC said it was first detected on July 22 involving three cases.
“A total of 114 people were screened consisting of aircraft contacts and close contacts to the identified cases. Screening results have successfully detected a total of three cases or 2.63 per cent and the last case was detected on July 28.
“The last case that has recovered and was discharged from the hospital ward was on Aug 7.”
Meanwhile, the Satok Market Cluster was detected on July 28 that involved four cases.
“This cluster was first detected when the Sarawak Health Department conducted an active screening at Satok Market following the report of Covid-19 case at Stutong Market.
“On July 25 and 26, the Sarawak Health Department conducted screening activities involving 229 traders and general workers in the market. As a result of the screening, a total of four cases were found positive on July 28.
“On July 29, Satok Market was ordered to close for 14 days for the purpose of decontamination and cutting off the chain of infection.
“A total of 936 traders and close contacts have been identified. Screening results have successfully detected a total of four cases or 0.43 per cent,” SDMC added.
