BINTULU: Four individuals here were fined RM1,500 each on Wednesday for flouting conditional movement control order (CMCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Bintulu District police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said the men, aged between 39 and 42, were compounded under Regulation 19 (1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within Infected Local Areas) (Movement Control) (No. 4) 2021.

He said they were arrested in the CMCO monitoring operation by a team of policemen from the Bintulu Central Police Station led by ASP Mohd Sani Junid at 9pm.

During the operation, he said the team came across a group of four men who were gathering and drinking alcoholic beverages on the sidewalk in front of a premises at Medan Assyakirin Commercial Centre.

“Their action clearly violates physical distancing rule and they were also in a public area after 8pm.”

Meanwhile, Supt Zulkipli stressed that the police, especially in Bintulu, would conduct daily monitoring to ensure that the public comply with CMCO SOPs.
