KUCHING: Four local men were each sentenced to a fine of RM700 or one month’s jail in default for failing to show their identity cards when detained at an entertainment centre.
The accused Kho Thong How, 32; Kon You Liang, 27; Then Mee Teck, 39, and Hwong Yu Fui, 50, each pleaded guilty to one charge which was read before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi at the Magistrate’s Court here today.
According to the charges, they were jointly charged with failure to show their identity cards when they were checked by the police in a raid at an entertainment centre at Jalan Tun Jugah, around 11.20pm, on October 18.
Therefore, all the accused were charged under Regulation 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations 1990 which carries a prison sentence not exceeding three years or a fine of up to RM20,000 or both.
According to the facts of the case, the complainant is a police officer from Branch D9, IPK Sarawak along with other police officers who raided and found that four Chinese men failed to provide identification when requested.
The prosecution of the case was handled by Prosecuting Officer Inspector Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin while all the accused were not represented by any counsel.
