Four locals held for alleged drug abuse

BINTULU: Narcotic police here arrested four local men for allegedly abusing substance in an operation codenamed ‘Op Tapis Khas Se-Malaysia’ on Tuesday (Dec 6).

Bintulu district police chief Supt Batholomew Umpit in a statement, said the suspects were detained for inspections around Kemena commercial centre, Jalan Masjid and Jalan Tun Hussien Onn.

“One of the suspects is being investigated under Section 39A (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 after police seized 5.2g of drugs believed to be syabu from him.

“Another suspect was found to be in possession of 0.8g of drugs believed to be syabu and he is being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” he said.

All of them aged between 17 and 42, were tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine and they will be investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Batholomew said the arrest was one of the police’s efforts in overcoming drug abuse issues, in addition to preventing crime in the district.
