BINTULU: The Bintulu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) has decided to set up four more roadblocks in the district which started today.

They are placed at Jalan Sebiew, Jalan Tun Hussein Onn, Jalan Persimpangan Stadium Muhibbah and Jalan Tanjung Batu.

District police chief Supt Zulkipli Suhaili said that it will be in effect until Apr 27 to restrict the movement of residents around the urban areas.

“This is done following the increasing number of Covid-19 cases at present, especially in urban areas.

“As directed, we will ensure the people’s movement from their respective homes is within the 10 kilometres radius except during emergencies,” he said.

He stressed that these roadblocks would not prevent parents from sending or picking up their children at school or attending anything important.

“Activities such as leisure shopping are not allowed. If there are premises nearby, for example in Kidurong, that sell necessities, then there is no need for residents to go to urban areas.

“We will also enforce the limit of two people in one vehicle,” he added.

Zulkipli noted that police teams are now carrying out patrols around urban areas to ensure that the standard operating procedures (SOPs) are adhered to.
