SIBU: Sarawak Marine Police Region 5 seized 40,000 litres of diesel and a cargo ship worth around RM1.01 million during an operation at Rantau Panjang, Sungai Batang Rajang on yesterday.

Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili said that during the operation codenamed Op Taring Pensura at about 12.45 pm, the marine police carried out an inspection on a cargo ship that had been moored and anchored at the pontoon.

“It led to the arrests of a local man and three foreign workers, aged between 26 and 44.

“Notably, the three foreign nationals held valid passports, hailing from Indonesia and Myanmar,” he said in a statement today.

Zulkipli said that further inspection revealed that the ship was transporting approximately 40,000 litres of diesel oil with an estimated value of around RM160,000, without the necessary permit and license from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

“The total estimated value of the seizure, which includes the ship and equipment, is approximately RM1.01 million,” he said.

The case is being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

“The seized items have been handed over to the KPDN Sibu Division for further legal proceedings,” he said.
