KUCHING: Sarawak recorded four new positive Covid-19 cases yesterday, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 459.

Another 27 cases had recovered and were discharged from hospitals, with 21 of these cases from Sarawak General Hospital (SGH), two from Sibu Hospital, one from Bintulu Hospital and three from Miri Hospital.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said cases of person-under-investigation (PUI) increased to 257 yesterday compared to 155 the day before.

“The number of PUI cases is higher because the Covid-19 task force has increased its contact tracing in Kuching and more people have come forward for screening,” he said at the Covid-19 daily update press conference.

He added that 253 cases in the state were pending laboratory results.

Two districts – Sibu and Sarikei, previously categorised as yellow zones have now become green zones.

“So now, the total number of green zones in Sarawak is 28,” he said.

He said that the state’s Covid-19 incidence rate per 100,000 individuals was 14.41 percent as of yesterday.

On the 40 quarantine centres with a total capacity of 2,980 beds, Uggah said the current occupancy was 1,619, with the number of cumulative admissions at 3,097 so far.

“The clusters which have been identified are Kuching Conference (146 cumulative cases), tabligh (97), Italy cluster (60), 18 sub-clusters (73), three small clusters (12), sporadic (28), and those still under investigation and new cases (43),” he said.

He said the public’s compliance with the movement control order (MCO) was 97 percent.

With regard to Sarawakians returning from overseas, West Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan, he said that another five persons-under-surveillance (PUS) had been checked into hotels, bringing the total to 1,250 quarantined at 17 hotels throughout Sarawak.

“Meanwhile, 395 have completed their quarantine period and have been allowed to return home,” he said.

Uggah also expressed the state government’s appreciation for the service and dedication of frontliners in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic.
