KUCHING: Four government projects in the city have been classified as critically delayed out of 30 which are at various stages of completion.
In stating this, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo said the rest are either on schedule or ahead of schedule.
Monitoring will be done from time to time to ensure the projects are completed according to the set schedule, he said.
“We have a total of 53 projects, with 23 already completed and 30 ongoing. Overall, the cost for the projects involve a cost of RM2.219 billion,” he said after a briefing on the projects here today.
Explaining, he said the SK Agama Datuk Haji Abdul Kadir Hasan project near Jalan Sultan Tengah here is nearly complete but there is a technical problem that needs the contractor to relocate a substation.
“This has caused delays to the project at the school.
“The second project is the development of the Pepper Industry Centre in Semenggok, a federal project, which has been mutually terminated by the Public Works Department (PWD) due to delays and will be re-tendered,” he said.
He also said that the third project under the critically delayed category involves the upgrading of the road from Sejingkat Bridge to Tanjung Bako and another package being handled by a rescue contractor from Tanjung Bako to Samarahan Bridge, delayed by approximately 10.61 per cent but the issue has been resolved.
“We will continue monitoring to ensure it doesn’t remain in the critically delayed category.
“Meanwhile, the fourth project is the proposed upgrade of the Kolej Vokasional Rintis Bahagian Kuching, that is delayed by 7.8 per cent,” he said.
On the ongoing Sg Bintangor Bridge project at Jalan Datuk Ajibah Abol here, Aidel said it has been granted an extension of 819 days to be completed.
“The project has experienced significant delays as previously stated. However, several issues at the construction site have been resolved, with the most significant problem being the relocation of utilities and other technical issues.
“The project has been granted an extension of 819 days, equivalent to more than two years. We hope that the contractor can now proceed more smoothly. Considering the time extension granted, the latest revised completion date is now April 2025.
“The physical progress is currently around 63.04 per cent compared to the scheduled 69.86 per cent, delayed by 6.82 per cent,” he added.
