SAMARAHAN: Four venues are currently racing against time to be ready for athletes competing in the 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) from Aug 17 to 24.
Deputy Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development Minister Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu identified the as a cricket field, an archery range, the hockey stadium in Padungan , and the BMX cycling track.
“These four venues are experiencing minor delays in their completion, primarily due to recent weather conditions.
“The frequent rainfall has been a significant factor hindering the ongoing progress,” he said.
Rentap spoke to reporters during a site inspection of Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium today where the futsal event for the upcoming SUKMA will be held.
Nevertheless, he expressed confidence that the appointed contractors are capable of completing all venues within the stipulated time frame.
“There are only a few (locations that) are (uncompleted) left, it’s just a matter of a slight delay. So, we will try to expedite our efforts,” he said.
Hence, he said the completion of the stadiums will provide the athletes with the opportunity to train and adapt to these venues accordingly.
Rentap added that he would monitor the construction and upgrading works of the arenas and stadiums daily with the technical teams.
“Next week, I will also meet with the meteorology director to discuss and seek their insights and advice regarding the recent rainy conditions,” he said.
After inspecting Kota Samarahan Indoor Stadium, Rentap visited Dewan Jubli, UiTM Kota Samarahan to review the hall designated for the chess event.
Also present with Rentap at the site visit was Irwan Bahari Bujang, the Resident of Samarahan Division.
