Fourteen hauled up to court for illegal gaming

KUCHING: Fourteen individuals comprising 12 Indonesians and two locals were charged with conducting an illegal online gaming activities at the Magistrates’ Court here today.

They were charged under Section 4B(a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, 1953 read with Section 34 of the same act.

Magistrate Sharifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali ordered the two locals aged 25 and 29 released on bail of RM10,000 with one surety each while all the 12 Indonesians detained at the police lockup pending another mention of the case on November 25.

All the accused were detained during a police raid codenamed ‘Ops Dadu’ at a house in Windsor Estate, Jalan Benggang here on October 28.

They were found conducting illegal online gaming activities using eight gaming machines comprising of computer sets.

They each face a minimum fine of RM10,000 and not exceeding RM100,000 and liable to a maximum jail term of five years upon conviction.
