BINTULU: Another theft and break-in incident occurred at the construction site of Maskat Booster Pump Station project on Wednesday (March 22).

This incident marked the fourth case of such an occurrence that had happened as recorded by the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Bintulu Division, causing a significant setback to the progress of the project.

During an official work visit to the water supply project here, Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication (Utility) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi took the time to see the impacts of theft and vandalism on the construction site.

JBALB suffered a massive loss of approximately RM293,000 for the repairs and replacement of equipment that was destroyed or lost due to the break-in.

The assets provided by JBALB aimed to provide users with access to consistent and reliable water supply.

However, due to these irresponsible incidents, it has caused inconvenience and suffering to other users.

Three police reports have been filed by JBALB related to the previous incidents of vandalism and theft.

The ministry and JBALB are taking this matter seriously and strict action will be taken against any parties involved and the matter will be brought to court.

Individuals or parties found guilty can be punished under Section 447 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum imprisonment of up to six months or a fine of up to RM3,000 or both. The ministry and JBALB calls for the cooperation of all parties to contact the JBALB Call Centre at 082-262211 or the police if they witness any suspicious activities at the water treatment plant, pumping stations or any JBALB property
