KAPIT: All hawkers trading at the Teresang Market along Jalan Penghulu Geringang and night Street Market at Kapit New Bazaar here received free face masks as a precautionary and preventive measure against the spread to Covid-19 virus.

Kapit District Council (KDC) walikota Lating Minggang led his councillors and council staffs in distributing the face masks to the hawkers and customers.

Teresang Market is the biggest market in town. According to a record at a counter set up by the council, over one thousand people would normally visit the market to buy essential food items including green vegetables, frozen meat (pork, fish, prawn), baked cakes and other jungle produce.

Earlier, State assemblyman for Bukit Goram, Jefferson Jamit Unyat also distributed face masks to the hawkers and customers.

According to Lating, the council distributed the face masks as a precautionary measure against the spread of virus although Kapit is a Covid-19 ‘green zone’.

“Our objective is to educate the public, for both hawkers and customers at the market to observe the highest level of hygiene, to wear face mask and practise social distancing of at least one metre apart.”
