KUCHING: The Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) has urged all Muslims in the state to contribute to the victims of the Turkish and Syrian earthquakes through the Friday Sadaq collections at mosques across Sarawak on Feb 10 and 17.
The charitable trust boards or committees of mosques and surau throughout Sarawak are required to forward the donation to the Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak bank account at Bank Islam Malaysia Berhad (11013010000250) with the payment reference “Turkiye Syria.”
A Monday morning earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale and more than a hundred aftershocks have thus far claimed more than 24,000 lives, left thousands injured and wreaked untold damage to property and infrastructure in both countries.
Malaysia is among scores of countries which have sent search and rescue teams as well as medics to the affected areas to help in the frantic search for life.
