KUCHING: The Women and Family Department (JWKS) will distribute 10,050 boxes of ‘Sumbangsih Raya Gawai’ goodies to 15 Covid-19 frontline agencies in the state.

“This is one of the ministry’s annual programmes during Hari Raya and Gawai. It serves to give recognition to the contribution and sacrifices made by our frontliners, particularly the agencies and authorities that look after the safety and sovereignty of our country,” said Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.

She said 15 agencies will receive the contributions, including agencies related to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

Fatimah told the media after handing out the contribution to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) at the Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters here today.

PDRM was the first frontline agency to receive the contribution. It will also assist in the distribution to other agencies by providing outriders.

“The boxes are distributed to five agencies today while the other 10 agencies will receive theirs on Friday, so we are glad that the distribution can be completed within a day and a half,” Fatimah said.

She pointed out that the ‘Box of Love’ contribution with the slogan ‘Packed with Love, Sent with Love’ was significant despite being small in size.

“Although the boxes look small, they are filled with sincerity and recognition. They are packed with love and sent with love. This is one of the ways to show the frontliners that the government and Sarawakians truly appreciate their contributions as well as sacrifices.

“We know that they have their own family and (we also know) that during the festive season, they may not be able to spend time with their loved ones (because they need) to keep the country and people safe.”

The recipient agencies included the Fire and Rescue Department, People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), Immigration Department, Royal Malaysian Customs Department and Sarawak General Hospital.
