KAPIT: Kapit Division is considered a green zone as far as Covid-19 is concerned, said the Resident of Kapit Division Nyurak Keti Kapit when chairing a meeting of the Division Disaster Management Committee here yesterday morning.
Thanking all the frontliners for doing a good job to prevent the spread of the disease in the division, he said, “We have cut off the river transport from Sibu and the express boats have stopped operations.
“The road blocks manned by the police and health team managed to monitor the movement of the people in and out of Kapit. We only allow the 4 X 4 drive vehicles transporting essential daily items to drive through.
“Although we can’t stop locals who are returning from outstation, we stopped outsiders from coming to Kapit. This is one of the important measures to minimise the movements of people to reduce the risk of Covid-19.”
He urged everyone in the division to strictly follow the MCO Standard of Procedure (MCO SOP) to prevent the spread of Covid-19 to Kapit.
Nyurak also called on the police to set up road blocks near to Mujong Bridge to block and screen people from rural Baleh and Bintulu who used the logging road to Kapit.
He pointed that non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were not allowed to distribute assistance directly to needy people. All items must go through the Kapit Welfare Department which would be responsible for distributing them to the recipients.
Among those who attended the meeting were Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Pelagus assemblyman Wilson Nyabong Ijang.
According to Jamit and Wilson, the state government had allocated each assemblyman RM150,000 to RM200,000 for food assistance package for the needy in the rural longhouses.
