KUCHING: Some 120 packs of fresh farm produce were delivered to frontliners at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) vaccination centre (PPV) under the Peladang Prihatin Sarawak programme.
These were contributed by the Department of Agriculture (DoA) Kuching Division and the Farmers’ Organisations of Kuching, Bau, and Sri Gading.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian commended the programme which would help local farmers struggling during the Covid-19 pandemic while also providing a token of appreciation to frontliners and food for the needy.
“They go and purchase all the extra fruits and vegetables from the local farmers which they are unable to sell in the market. Then, they give it to the frontliners or to those who are in need of food,” he said when officiating at the programme held at the SGH Day Care Centre on Friday (July 23).
“In Sarawak, the frontliners have been working extremely hard to reach where we are today. This is because everybody is in solidarity,” said Dr Sim, who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor.
The frontliners at SGH’s PPV include officers from the Malaysian Health Ministry Training Institute (ILKKM), Red Crescent and SGH itself.
Each pack comprised two bitter gourds, 200g of chillies, one pineapple and a watermelon.
Also present was SGH director Dr Ngian Hie Ung.
