KUCHING: A fruit seller suffered injuries after he was allegedly robbed by four men near a temple at Sungai Apong here on Tuesday.

District police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said during the 9.30pm incident, the 55-year-old victim was packing his produce and belongings to call it a day.

“He was approached by four suspects on two motorcycles who assaulted him with a blunt object (wooden stick).

“One of the suspects snatched the victim’s gold necklace and took his money before they fled the scene,” he said in a statement.

The victim, who suffered a broken tooth, facial, eye and hands injuries, reportedly lost RM2,245 in cash and jewelry during the robbery.

Awang Din said the vendor had been operating at the area for the past three years and had never encountered any problem in the past.
