KUCHING: Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PAS) Sarawak is disappointed that Pakatan Harapan (PH) has continued to put on an act and failing to fulfill its GE14 manifesto especially its promise to deliver 20 per cent oil royalty to Sarawak.
PAS Sarawak deputy commissioner Mukhtar Suhaili said although PAS agrees that the 20 per cent oil royalty is not practical for the industry and its players especially Petronas, the promise by PH had attracted many Sarawakian voters and fooled them into voting for PH in hopes that those rights would be fulfilled.
“The federal government under PH, supported by Democratic Action Party (DAP), is getting more and more chaotic by the day, to a point of losing its guidelines in leading the nation towards economic prosperity.
“Basically, the 20 per cent royalty is a promise in PH’s manifesto in GE14. It turned out to be another election promise that is actually false hope.
“This proves that the PH manifesto was made without detailed research, carelessly and recklessly in order to win the election,” Mukhtar remarked in a recent statement.
He said this clearly showed PH’s dishonest attitude towards the people.
He said PAS welcomed the announcement by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg that Sarawak was presenting a new formula to obtain its oil rights without disrupting the position of Petronas.
PH should support the efforts of the Sarawak government to increase the state’s revenue in line with the provisions or ordinances relevant in the state such as the five per cent tax on petroleum products,” he remarked.
He hoped that Sarawakians would give their full support to these efforts to ensure that the state’s rights are restored.
Mukhtar hoped that PH federal government would increase funds given to Sarawak in Budget 2020.
“Funds in the Budget for infrastructure allocated to Sarawak have to be increased, including improvements to basic facilities such as roads, electricity and water as well as the promises to improve facilities in dilapidated schools, internet access, and more.
“With many false promises and never-ending acts, PH should be rejected by Sarawakians in the upcoming state election and general election,” Mukhtar said.
