MIRI: The Orang Ulus fully support Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the coming state election.
Mulu state assemblyman Datuk Gerawat Gala, who is also Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Deputy Speaker, added the Orang Ulus had full confidence and trust in Abang Johari’s leadership.
“In DUN, the Orang Ulus have six seats in the 82-seat assembly, but one of these assemblymen is not yet a GPS ally (referring to DUN Ba’kelalan. We want Ba’kelalan to be with us under the GPS flag in this coming State election so that all the Orang Ulus in can be united,” he said.
Speaking at the earth breaking of the Federation of Orang Ulu Association Sarawak Malaysia (Forum) multipurpose hall centre at Jalan Pujut Padang Kerbau today.
Gerawat added that, the Orang Ulus needed to be united and to join forces with a strong political party for a more prosperous future.
“In Sarawak, there are about 180,000 Orang Ulus. Sarawak has a population of 2.8 million and we only make 6 percent of the total population. Thus, it is very much crucial for us to stand united,” he said.
Gerawat also reminded the community not to let emotions cloud their decisions.
“Do not easily be deceived by the propaganda of the opposition which tries to confuse the people,” he advised.
