SIBU: It was a day of fun and positive vibes when the fourth edition of the Makna Founders Fun Run (MFFR) came to town.
Held for the first time here after three successful years of being hosted in Kuala Lumpur, the event on Sunday drew 1,000 participations.
The participants came from all walks of life, including Makna donors, volunteers and the general public; many participated to honour their loved ones who have battled and continue striving in the fight against cancer.
The 5-km run was aimed at engaging with the local community through sporting activities and foster a healthy, active lifestyle.
Makna deputy general manager Vemanna Appannah, who flagged off the run together with cancer survivors, was thrilled to receive such positive response from the local community.
“With our mission of reaching out to the general public and offering free services to financially-challenged cancer patients, I am happy to say that we are progressing well.
“Makna is coming up with two Digital Mobile Mammogram Units for Sabah and Sarawak, and we have recently opened a Halfway House (Vila Kenyalang) in here in Kuching. With these facilities, we hope to bring Makna closer to the public — making cancer awareness, prevention, early detection and treatment accessible to all,” he added.
Every participant who crossed the finishing line received Makna 25 years of giving meaning to life Finisher medal and goodie bag.
