SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) in collaboration with Sibu Yunyang Chinese Orchestra (SYCO) will organise the Chinese Orchestra Concert 2024 at UTS’ Tun Abdul Taib Chancellor Hall on Aug 24 from 7 pm to 9.30 pm.
According to UTS vice chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid, the collaborative effort is aimed at celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Chinese orchestral music while supporting the welfare of UTS students.
“The proceeds from the concert will be used to support UTS students, ensuring the financial hardships do not hinder their educational journey.
“Through the performance of traditional Chinese pieces, we hope to share the rich culture and artistic heritage of Chinese music with the audience. By supporting local composers and performers, we aim to inspire new musical creations that reflect contemporary cultural landscapes.
“These funds will enable us to maintain and expand our cultural activities, providing more opportunities for community engagement with Chinese music,” he told a press conference at UTS campus here today (July 3).
According to Khairuddin, the key highlights will include various cultural performances by SYCO and Oriental Traditional Orchestra Kuching; renowned ensemble from Kuching and other notable local artistes.
He said all these emphasised the beauty and complexity of traditional Chinese orchestral music and connecting cultural gaps and fostering a harmonious multicultural spirit.
He said tickets comprising VIP, public and student (UTS) seats are now available priced at RM50, RM30 and RM30, respectively.
For public early birds promotion until July 20, the ticket is priced at RM20 each.
