KUCHING: The Girl Guides Association of Malaysia (PPPM), Sarawak Branch is aiming to raise a fund of RM200,000 through its Girl Guides Run set to take place at the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Foyer on March 3 next year.

Targeting about 1,000 runners, its chairwoman Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud said the objective of the run is to raise funds to finance several of its activities such as training, skills and camps related to scouting.

“The run is also to purchase additional equipment including laptops as it is very helpful for the members to carry out activities and matters related to the management of PPPM Sarawak Branch,” she said.

She said this at a press conference on the upcoming 2024 Girl Guides Run at the PPPM Sarawak Branch Headquarters in Jalan Batu Lintang here on Wednesday (Oct 11).

Dayang Morliah also said the running event will start at around 6.30 am and to be officiated by Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan while MBKS mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng will  flag off the run.

“Participants of the run will also get the opportunity to win attractive lucky draw prizes,” she said.

She added the running event is also to raise funds for the organisation of the PPPM Malaysia Annual General Meeting (AGM) next year as Sarawak Branch will be the host.

“We expect a total of 300 PPPM members from the 18 branches throughout Malaysia to attend the AGM.

“In addition, this opening ceremony of the event is also expected to be graced by Raja Permaisuri Agong, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, who is also the Royal Patron of PPPM,” she said, while adding that the date of the AGM has yet to be fixed.

Therefore, Dayang Morliah called on the public, corporates, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), media personnel to join the run and help PPPM Sarawak to achieve its target.

Meanwhile, the run with its slogan ‘Bersatu Ke Arah Masa Depan Yang Cemerlang dan Cerah’, is divided into categories with different running distances of 3 kilometres (km) and 5km.
