BINTULU: The Tatau Sebauh District Education Office (PPD) will distribute funds to every primary school in Tatau District to hold anti-drug programmes.
According to Tatau Sebauh PPD assistant officer (Pupil Affairs Unit) Luta Bigam, one secondary school had received RM1,000 for the purpose so far.
He hoped that the money would be used to set up Anti-Drug Lanes in the respective schools in line with the goal of Tatau Sebauh PPD to find representatives for the Anti-Drug Lanes state-level competition.
Luta was speaking on behalf Sarawak Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam) State executive secretary Munawwar Ismail in the Better To Prevent (Crime and Drug Free) programme at SK Kelawit, Tatau on Monday (Feb 6).
Earlier, SK Kelawit headmaster Janudin Abdul Rahman said such a programme would give exposure to students, especially with regard to the severe punishment that one would receive if they commit a crime.
“This programme also aims to make students aware that drugs will harm their lives,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, the programme was warmly received and had a variety of activities, including talks on bullying and cigarettes, a K9 demonstration, an anti-drug exhibition by Pemadam and the anti-drug pledge.
Also present were SMK Tatau principal Dr Layang Ugek, Bintulu Prison Correctional Centre inspector Joesauvace Impin Jeluing and Tatau District Office administrative officer Raden Azamry Raden Perhan.
