PAPAR: The funeral proceedings for the late Lieutenant Colonel Awang Askandar Ampuan Yaacub were carried out at the Islamic Cemetery in Kampung Benoni. Prior to the burial, the body was brought to the family’s residence in Kampung Benoni Papar and prayers were held at the As Salam Benoni Mosque.
The final interment took place at the Islamic Cemetery in Kampung Benoni. Earlier, the body arrived safely at Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 2.15pm today. Upon arrival at KLIA at 7:30 AM this morning, the body was received by the APM Funeral Squad, where it was honoured with prayers and final respects.
Awang Askandar, 56, who was also the Director of APM Kedah, tragically passed away last Friday due to health complications while attempting to conquer the peak of Mount Everest.
He encountered the distressing situation at an altitude of 8,000 metres above sea level, 20 minutes away from reaching the peak of Mount Everest.
