KUCHING: The Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), through its wholly owned subsidiary Sarawak Design Centre (Saradec), participated in the state-level International Day of Forests, organised by the Forest Development Sarawak on June 28.
Saradec, whose main role is to develop young furniture designers and to promote world-class creative furniture designs, received an overwhelming reception by visitors at the event.
The company showcased some prototypes designed by the Sarawak Young Designers (SayD’SignersSarawak) who completed two years of furniture design training.
SayD’SignersSarawak was developed by STIDC in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) and Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) since 2018. To date, 32 participants have graduated.
Currently, Saradec is implementing SayD’Signers Link & Match (SLIM) programme in collaboration with ITB since January 2022 where 15 SayD’SignersSarawak, who have completed their two-year training, were linked and matched with 12 local furniture manufacturers in Sarawak.
The mock-up of each design was displayed during the exhibition attended by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
