LUNDU: The search for an elderly woman, who was feared to have been attacked by a crocodile at Sungai Kampung Rayu on April 17, enters its second day today.
According to reports by the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) the search area now covers a one-kilometre stretch upstream and downstream from the last known location of the victim, identified as 76-year-old Minu Khien.
Firefighters conducted ongoing “Water Surface Searching” efforts with searches focusing on river pools and narrow streams within the search area.
The Bomba K9 Unit is also assisting in the search. So far there have been no new findings.
Also present today at the search site was Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
Earlier, Minu was reported to have accompanied her 54-year-old daughter to the river to gather clams at around 8 am.
According to Lundu police chief DSP Damataries Lautin, the daughter heard her mother’s cries for help and hurried to her side, only to discover she had gone missing.
“The daughter quickly returned home to Kampung Sungai Belian and notified other family members of the incident.
“The family suspects that Minu was attacked and pulled into the river by a crocodile, considering the area’s known presence of crocodiles,” he stated in a press release.
