KOTA SAMARAHAN: To be a political leader is to always be prepared, and equipped themselves with the knowledge and understandings about politics.

Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Dr Johari Abdul said that being a political leader is all about what more a person can do to contribute towards the development of their respective community or to the country.

“When we wake up, we look at our people, and our surroundings and ask ourselves, what else can we do as part of our contribution?

“Instead of asking what we cannot do, ask what more we can do to contribute to society.

“Nowadays, we have smartphones, and we can google and search the countries such Switzerland, America, and even South Korea.

“Imagine you are someone with a position, you can transform our area, city or your country into something you want to see. That everyone, is a political leader,” he said.

He said this in a question and answer (Q&A) session during the “Bicara Ketatanegaraan: Membina Masa Hadapan” Lecture at Jubliee Hall, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Samarahan Campus here today (Sept 12).

Johari noted that being a political leader is about driving meaningful change for a better future.

“And that change is no longer impossible, it is something that is achieveable.

“Provided that we must equipped ourselves with the knowledge and understanding in order to be there.

“Nothing is impossible, just be prepared and work hard. God willing, you will be there,” he added.

As the world continues to move, Johari wants the younger generations to make decision that will be beneficial for them in the long run.

“Because at the end of the day, the only person that can make the decision is none other than yourself, not your parents, nor your teachers or educators.

“You are the ones that will decide which path or destiny that you will go through. If you do nothing, the world will continue to move but you will be defeated,” he added.

Also present during lecture session were State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Awang Assfia Nassar, DUN Deputy Speaker Datuk Idris Buang, Deputy Rector (Student Affairs) UITM Sarawak Branch Profesor Dr Saimi Bujang and other distinguished guests.
