KUCHING: The Sarawak Court Gallery, hosting an array of documents and exhibits that trace the evolution of the courts in the state from their origins to the esteemed pillars of justice they represent today, was launched here on Thursday.

Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Datuk Abdul Rahman Sebli underscored the significance of these exhibits, which were generously contributed by the families of past legal luminaries such as the late former Chief Justice of Borneo Tan Sri Datuk Amar Lee Hun Hoe and the late former Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Jemuri Serjan.

“These exhibits remind us of the lasting impact of the law in shaping societies, and its enduring power to transform lives and communities.

“This gallery also stands as a testament to our commitment to justice, offering a glimpse into the evolution of our legal system and the tireless endeavours of those who have worked diligently to uphold its integrity,” he said.

He said this during the launching ceremony of the Sarawak Court Gallery at Kuching Courthouse, Petra Jaya here on Thursday.

The gallery here is an extension of the Sabah and Sarawak Judicial Museum in Kota Kinabalu, with an emphasis on the Sarawak’s rich judicial legal history.

Its primary objectives are to disseminate valuable knowledge and enhance public understanding of the legal and judicial institutions in Sabah and Sarawak.

However, beyond its function as a repository for the legal heritage of the past, Abdul Rahman highlighted the gallery’s role as an education hub and a source of inspiration for upcoming legal minds.

“It serves as a platform for students to delve into the principles of justice and the intricate workings of the legal system, sparking their curiosity and nurturing their passion for law and advocacy.

“In the years to come, Sarawak Court Gallery will continue to serve as a beacon of legal knowledge and inspiration for generations to come.
