KUCHING: Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) will have an Islamic gallery called Ibnu Khaldun Gallery to highlight the history of Islam in Sarawak, said Deputy Minister of Utilities and Telecommunications Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.
The gallery will be a collaboration between MIS and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), and other related agencies.
“The main purpose of this gallery here is to ensure that we can keep all the information related to the history of the arrival of Islam, Islamic administration and famous Islamic scholars in the past.
“These things are important to display in the gallery because we will be able to share history with the community today and in the future,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony of the 13th Borneo Islamic International Conference (KAIB) 2022 here today (Sept 7).
He also urged countries such as Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Korea and Singapore to share materials related to the history of Islam.
“It includes the history of the glory of Islam during the past time and all of this information will be placed and shared in the Ibnu Khaldun Gallery later,” he said.
“And there are many more efforts that we can implement to dignify Islam not only in Sarawak but also in Borneo,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the conference, he praised the selection of the theme, which is the ‘Role and Contribution of Islamic Institutions’ which is appropriate because Islamic institutions play various roles in the development of the ummah.
“All Islamic institutions have their own vision and mission since they were established, and their roles include aspects related to Islam at the federal level such as the economy of Muslims, legislations, education, thinking and preaching. Therefore, the importance of Islamic institutions cannot be denied,” he said.
He hoped the conference can highlight various scientific disciplines in addition to gaining useful knowledge that can be used as a reference in the field of work and daily life.
